The Power Of Mentality

DEPRESSION

Chronic pain can make us feel isolated and helpless, especially if its cause is an illness or physical condition for which there's no cure or effective medical treatment. At times of deepest despair, finding ways to nurture our spirits can help us not only cope with the pain, but also discover nuggets of grace, comfort, and productivity that can move us through and beyond the helplessness and hopelessness we feel

MEDITATION

When we are in great pain, finding true peace and comfort is not easy. But it is possible, if we first try to still our worries and fears, both external and internal. Finding a place where there are no noisy distractions is a great start. Enjoying the outward quiet, we can then calm our inner selves and nurture peace within. Make Meditation part of your daily chronic pain toleration and easement practice.  Meditation can be done anytime you can find a quite place and 15 to 20 minutes to slow down and focus on easing your pains.

Everyday is the start of new hope that we will be able to break free of the chronic pains binds and run down the street singing and dancing, picking up our little girls and boys, tossing the ball, jumping rope, doing whatever it is that we want unrestricted by the pain.  We know our family and friends don't fully understand what we are experiencing; hell we barely understand it but we still have to live thru it.

Your Body Has Pains That Even Make Even Superman Seem Human

Too many of us choose to be "tough" and work thru the various pains that flareup from time to time. I'm as guilty of doing that as the next person that's why I feel validated in saying that not every pain should be just worked thru. Sometimes we have to take appropriate action to give our body a chance to heal or begin the healing process. A warm soak or an ice bag or a massage and a phone call to your doctor just to be sure can go a long way to getting the healing started on the right track. I know many of us self medicate and grab the various over the counter meds to quell the rising pain and avoid the costly visit to the family doctor or emergency room. There are steps that we can take to do right by our bodies and we owe it to ourselves to take these steps.

I do know that your
body doesn't forget what you do to it. You might get away with doing things when you are young and at the peak of your physical abilities but as you get older, your body will begin to revisit those "checks" you cashed earlier and you will have to start putting the "money" in the account. Aches and pains do come back to haunt you later on. How many of you hear that occassional grunt or groan when you or somebody you know goes to get up from a chair or off the floor if they happen to settle there for a brief period? The extra snap,
crackle and pop of your joints when you stretch? Or that really unexpected shoulder lock up when you go to reach for something like you have for the last umpteen years? That's your body telling you it's time to start paying back what you so gloriously enjoyed early on in life but that doesn't signal a death sentence, it just means you have to start a regimen of taking better care of yourself and that most times includes going to the doctor to get yourself checked out completely.

What's that old saying, "you can pay me now or you can pay me later". That's how it is folks. So, I recommend that you get started on some kind of physical maintenance program and maintain it throughout your life. Work with your doctor to develop a plan that's right for you and whatever you do, don't cheat yourself by shortcutting the plan. Stick with it and when things get stretched or pulled to far, let your body recover properly. In a few years, you'll be so glad you did.
